The annual Puma/Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association (JAAA) Development Track & Field Meet is on tomorrow at Kirkvine Sports Club in Manchester.
Several of the island's top schools from central and western Jamaica are expected to participate at the meet, which started in 1982 as the Manchester Amateur Athletics Association (MAAA) Development Meet and was hosted at Manchester High.
Defending four-time high school girls' champions Holmwood Technical, former champions Vere Technical, the improving Edwin Allen Comprehensive, Manchester High, St. Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) and Glenmuir High are expected to lead the charge among the girls.
On the boys' side, Holmwood, Manchester, Claude McKay, Central High, Munro College, Cornwall College, Vere and Edwin Allen are the schools who will provide spectators with some real competition.
Meanwhile, the Stephen Francis-coached MVP Club, and G. C. Foster College are among the clubs and institutions down to take part.
Over the past four years, the meet which started out with mainly central Jamaica schools, has attracted an average of over 125 schools and institutions and over 2000 athletes each year.
Among the athletes who will compete are World Junior Championships representatives Schillonie Calvert and Anastasia Le-Roy of Holmwood.
Like previous years, the Windalco/MAAA will honour persons who have contributed to the development of the meet.
Clinton 'Red Man' Clarke, who served as marshal for several years and veteran coach Maurice 'Porus' Westney are the two persons to be honoured this year.
The events to be contested are: 100m, 400m, 800m, 3000m (women), 5000 (men), distance medley (Penn Relays qualifier), and javelin.
