A Rugby coach at the Spanish Town High school is now before the court after it is alleged that he beat up the head teacher of the sports department during a fight that took place before the students.
Robert Hall, the accused, had his bail extended until April 10 when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's court to answer to wounding charges on Tuesday. A police officer told the court that on December 13, Hall had a disagreement with the head of the sports department, Howard Brooks, at the school. It is reported that during this disagreement, Brooks was punched several times and even after he fell to the ground, he was still beaten. As a result of the attack, Brooks was cut and had to get stitches. Having heard the allegation, the lawyer representing Hall told the court that his client was attacked and he had only defended himself.
The police indicated also that there is another statement to be collected to complete the file.
While extending Hall's bail, RM Lorna Errar Gayle chided both teachers for bringing their profession into disrepute and fighting before students.
She told them that they should be ashamed of themselves and they were setting a very bad example for the
students.
