Golding-Clarke grabs second in 60m hurdles

Jamaica's Lacena Golding-Clarke clocked 7.91 seconds to place second in the women's 60 metres hurdles at the Karlsruhe Indoor Athletics meet in Germany yesterday.

The event was won in 7.87 by American Lolo Jones with Poland's Aurelia Tryvianska finishing third in 8.03.

The men's 60m hurdles went to 110m hurdles world record holder Liu Xiang of China in 7.42. Cuba's rising star Dayron Robles was second in 7.44.

Laverne Jones of the United States Virgin Islands took the women's 400m in 51.91 from Germany's Claudia Hoffmann, 52.50 and Brigitta Langerholc of Slovenia, 52.81.

At the Leipzig Indoor meet on Friday night, Davian Clarke placed fourth in the men's 400m behind Poland's Daniel Dabrowski who won in 47.19. Germany's Florian Seitz was second in 47.26 and California Molefe of Botswana third in 47.39. Clarke clocked 47.75.

At the same meet, the evergreen former Jamaica sprint queen Merlene Ottey was third in the women's 60m in 7.36. Daria Onysko of Poland won the event in 7.29 from her compatriot Dydo Doroto, 7.35. Ottey who turns 47 in may now runs in the colours of Slovenia.

Jamaicans were also in action at the Tyson Invitational Indoors meet in the United States on the weekend. In the 60m for colleges, Tracey Ann Rowe (Auburn) was fourth in 7.30, Nadine Palmer (Florida) fifth in 7.48 and Samantha Henry (Louisiana State) seventh in 7.54. American Courtney Champion of Tennessee won in 7.21.

The 60m invitational went to American Marshevet Hooker who crossed the line in 7.26. Jamaicans Sheri-Ann Brooks (7.34) and Aleen Bailey (7.40) were second and fourth respectively. Another American, Rachelle Smith, was third in 7.40.

Orlando Morgan of the University of Technology was eighth in the colleges 60m in 6.81. Jacoby Ford of Clemson won in 6.60. The men's 60m invitational went to American Shawn Crawford in 6.61.
