Cop Shot 30 Times?...Man also killed in incident

by Francine Black, Staff Reporter

The Duhaney Park Police are seeking four men who they believe can assist them in their investigation of the murder of a policeman and another man on Brooks Avenue in that community last night.

The police are asking men known as 'Harry Dog'; 'Leeford'; 'Jubba'; otherwise called 'Die Less Bwoy' and Chris ,otherwise called 'Ian'; to contact them as they can help in their investigations.

Detective Corporal Dave Daley, who is attached to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) and a man who has only been identified as 'Joel' were killed last night.

Police reports are that at 9:45 p.m., Daley was driving along Brooks Avenue when he intervened in a dispute between two men. During the dispute, a stone was reportedly thrown at the officer. The stone hit him in the head and shots were fired at him. He returned the fire and Joel was found shot and injured. Both men were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.

THE STAR understands that the 40-year-old Corporal's body was pumped with bullets as more than 30 spent shells were found at the scene. The police said they were also investigating information that another man was also shot.

Officers at the St. Andrew South Division, where Corporal Daley started working 20 years ago when he left training school, were visibly shaken by his death. Some officers cried while others talked about the moments they shared with him.

"He was a very outspoken young man. Every thing he did, he did down to end," one officer who knew him for two decades told THE STAR.
