Titchfield oust Brown's Town

Jonique Gaynor, Staff Reporter

Brown's Town Community College was yesterday eli-minated from TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz, after losing to a determined and focused Titchfield High.

The match was an exciting one in most parts and it was hard to predict a winner in the early stages. Both teams started out on fairly even ground and each found it hard to establish a commanding lead. At the end of the first section, Titchfield was on seven points, while their opponents trailed by one.

The teams gained a bit more confidence after playing the first section, as their performance in section two was much better. Though they did poorly in their first minute, Brown's Town made up for it by doing well in the other two. Things worked in the opposite for Titchfield, who did well in the first two minutes but only managed to score three points in the third. At the end of this segment, the scores were Titchfield on 22 and Brown's Town on 20, after a score adjustment.

With the scores so close, it was anyone's game and the stage was set for an exciting final round.

Brown's town freeze

This was not to be, however, as Brown's Town practically froze during the third section. They attempted only three questions during the entire round, but luckily got all three correct. Titchfield, on the other hand, realised that they had to work for the win, and did just this. They gained a total of 16 points in this section and only got one question incorrect. At the sound of the final bell, Titchfield were proclaimed winners with 38 points (after losing four) while Brown's Town went back to St. Ann with 26 points.

Coach of the Brown's Town team, Marco Hines, said of his team, "I think they weren't as composed as they were supposed to be. They kept freezing on the buzzers, and the person who was there for the sciences was nervous. But full credit to Titchfield, they're a good science school and I guess the better team won."

Titchfield's coach, Devon Farr, was satisfied with his team's victory. He said, "Their hard work paid off today. Regular practising has paid off and, especially in the buzzer section, hitting the buzzer at the right time. I guess we just moved up another notch so the studying has to go up another notch for the next match. If we keep going this way, we'll be in the finals, as long as we iron out the little kinks."

The Titchfield team: Kevon Brown, Chase Roberts, Chester King, Randel Wilson (capt.)

The Brown's Town team: Caleb Henry, Donna-Lee Finegan, Alexander Nelson, Kenroy Smith (capt.)
