Jamaican triple jumper Susan Brown has been voted Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) women's track and field Athlete of the Week.
Brown became the second athlete from Macalester College to receive the honour, this as in the previous two weeks, the award went to hurdler Kaela Schramm.
A former Meadowbrook High student, Brown placed first in both the high jump (1.67m) and triple jump (11.40m) - each with NCAA Division III provisional qualifying marks.
Her performances led the school to an impressive fourth-place finish on Saturday (Feb. 10) at the UW-Stevens Point Eastbay Invitational.
This was Brown's first competitive triple jump event since earning All-American honours in this event at last spring's outdoor nationals and her 1.67-metre high jump mark should qualify her for the national Division III championships.
Brown's winning triple jump and high jump figures are both new school records. She is currently ranked third in the nation in high jump and fifth in triple jump amongst Division III schools.
This is Brown's second time being named MIAC Athlete of the Week. She also picked up this honour during the outdoor season of her junior year. - AF
