A man held in possession of a motor car, which was allegedly stolen in Kingston, was granted bail in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.
Twenty-two-year-old Donald Wallace, is facing charges of unlawful possession of property, fraudulent use of a license disc, fraudulent use of a license plate and driving without a driver's licence.
Wallace pleaded guilty to the driving without a licence and was fined $10,000 or 10 days jail time.
However, he is to return to court on March 1 when the other charges will be mentioned.
In a bail application, attorney-at-law George Thomas told the court that his client, who is a landscaper residing in Bickersteth, St. James, had bought the vehicle in a wrecked state for $400,000 and got it repaired at a garage in Granville. Mr. Thomas said that Wallace has receipts and relevant proof that he bought the vehicle legitimately. He said the insurance was still valid on the car and that was the reason why the licence plate was still on the vehicle, as it had not yet been transferred to his client. Wallace was granted bail in the sum of $90, 000 and is to report to the Cambridge Police Station on Mondays.
Allegations are that the police stopped Wallace along Barnett Street in Montego Bay on February 19 and the discovery made that the car had been stolen. He was also unable to present a driver's licence.
Under caution, Wallace said that he bought the car.
