Too violent for the family

The Editor, Sir:

The highly-violent movie Blood Diamond, starring Leonard DiCaprio, and Djimon Hounsou, has given the movie-loving public a shock about the world of conflict diamonds.

The movie is set in Sierra Leone, Africa, in 1999. DiCaprio's character, an arms smuggler, trades weapons for diamonds with (Danny Archer) who will risk his own life to get rich.

Co-star Djimon Hounsou's character is a local fisherman who loves and cares for his family.

The rebels who call themselves the Revolutionary United Front wage war against the government causing millions of people to become refugees.

Hounsou's character (Solomon Vandy) and his family become displaced by war. This forces Archer and Vandy to join together for their own personal reasons.

This movie's theme about conflict diamonds has briefly been used in other movies like Die Another Day and Nicolas Cage's film Lord of War.

Blood Diamond, in my opinion, is not for family viewing as it is too violent.

I am, etc.,
