Traffic attempting to go through the traffic lights at the intersection of Spanish Town Road and Industrial Terrace which has been out of service for approximately nine months. - Norman Grindley
AS A PART of our mission to be the 'People Paper', 'THE STAR' has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our reporter, Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley, will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. Now we will have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.
Do you know what today is? It's our anniversary. This is the nine-month anniversary of the broken traffic light.
Yes, fellow citizens and hard-working taxpayers, today marks nine months since the traffic light at the intersection of Industrial Terrace and Spanish Town Road stopped working.
The latest from Stephen Shaw, communications and customer service manager of the National Works Agency (NWA), is that they have still not received all the parts they need to fix this light. Earlier he had told The STAR that the underground wiring for the traffic light had been destroyed and that parts had been ordered for its repair.
He explained yesterday that the NWA is experiencing a resource problem and that they are working from a budget and a traffic management plan to minimise congestion in the Corporate Area. "We are aware of that problem and as soon as we are in a position to effect repairs to that light, it will be done," he said.
We have seen that the NWA has been busy and we commend them. However, we hope that this traffic light will soon get some attention.
