Three men, charged in connection with the seizure of 45 kilograms of ganja in Anchovy, St. James, were granted bail in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
The men, Dave Fenty, 43, of Barbados; 34-year-old Babadian-born Shaun Brathwaite of Canada, and Randolph Williams, a 46-year-old resident of Ocho Rios, St. Ann, were each granted bail in the sum of $250,000.
Their attorney, Adrian Dayes, told the court that the prosecution has not been able to link the men to the drugs, and asked that his clients be granted bail.
The men, who are answering charges of possession, dealing and trafficking ganja, are scheduled to return to court on April 4.
They are to report to the Ocho Rios police on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Allegations are that at about
8 p.m. on February 25, the police were conducting spot checks along the Anchovy main road when they saw a Toyota Corolla approaching.
Empty car
However, the car stopped and reversed. The police then approached the car and found the vehicle, which had its engine running and the headlights on, unoccupied.
Further allegations are that the police, acting on information,
proceeded to a nearby bar where they saw the three accused men.
They were questioned and
subsequently taken to the car, where the trunk was searched in their presence and the drug found.
The foreigners allegedly said nothing, but Williams insisted that he knew nothing.
