Gunman doused by intended victim

By Nagra Plunkett, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU

The Montego Bay police say they have detained a man who was doused with a corrosive substance by a woman whose Rosemount home he allegedly broke on the weekend.

The 19-year-old man, who is from Rose Heights, St. James, is now facing multiple charges and the possibility of losing an eye.

The charges include burglary, shooting with intent, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

"The upsurge in violence over recent times wasn't really affecting this area. What I know is that there were some break-ins last week," commented one concerned citizen.

"Over on the other section, Rosemount Crescent, there has been a spate of rapes, which have not been reported." THE STAR understands that the complainant was at home on March 3 when she heard strange sounds outside at about 4:30 a.m. The woman reportedly peered through a window and saw a man clutching a gun.

The gunman subsequently gained entry to her residence by kicking out several panes of a wooden window. He managed to grab hold of the woman, but she surprised him when she threw the liquid in his face and ran from the dwelling.

The man allegedly fired a shot before he escaping. He was later held by police at the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he went to seek medical treatment.
