The Editor, Sir:
Greetings! C-A-L-A-B-A-R the A School.
I believe I am a bit late in congratulating my alma mater Calabar High School(CHS), on winning Schools Challenge Quiz for three successive years. I hope I am not too early in congratulating the institution for being champions four times in a row.
Respect is due to Jamaica College, one of our opponents. Dr. Haldane Coore (Science) Neville Dawes and the late Mr. Noel White B.A., Dip, Ed (History), among other J.C. old boys.
J.C.has helped C.H.S. to produce Ministers of Government e.g. Prof. D. K.Gordon in Canada. C.H.S. also produced Dr. Arthur Wint and other intellectuals and athletes, including the great Herb McKenley and father Hugh Sherlock, who composed the National Anthem. His brother, Philip Sherlock, was the first Vice-Principal of U.C.W.I. (now U.W.I).Although C.H.S. beat J.C. handsomely by 65-32, I believe the former should have received two additional points. Calabar's reply: "Abraham," to a question was not accepted. The quiz master's correction was 'Abram'. The Encyclopaedia Britannica and the Collin's Bible Dictionary say that the words are interchangeable.
I want to use this medium to congratulate TVJ on exposing talent in this competition. Big up the boys and girls! There are many positive things about our youths.
God's richest blessings!
I am, etc.,
