TRAINER Donovan Bruce's speedy DOUBLE BOW is back at his favourite distance off a three-month lay-up and should go all the way in tomorrow afternoon's 1000-metre straight George HoSang Trophy for Overnight Allowance runners.
Beaten by CHARMING LUTHER and stablemate JACK BE GOOD over 1100 metres, after stumbling at the start on December 13, DOUBLE BOW reports down in class from Open Allowance for a shot at his pet trip.
It took a track record effort for MUSICAL MAESTRO to catch DOUBLE BOW close home at the distance on November 22, stopping the clock at 56.1 on a fast track.
Now back among Overnight Allowance runners, DOUBLE BOW is expected to blind his nine rivals with speed.
Apprentice Jason Simpson will slip three kilos off DOUBLE BOW's 57.0, putting Bruce's runner in at a handy 54.0 kilos against the trio of CLASSY BOY PETE (57.0), KYSHA BABY (55.0) and BULLET TRAIN (53.0), who are all favourably drawn on the outside.
Despite breaking from post position four, DOUBLE BOW's blinding speed should have him vying for the lead with another course specialist, BULLET TRAIN, who is light enough to battle due to Andre Martin's three-kilo claim.
However, with down-in-class DOUBLE BOW coming to make all, BULLET TRAIN, who is yet to beat Overnight Allowance in two tries, will have superior speed to contend with and will be run out of it in the rush for the wire.
Jackpots at $2.1m
Super-fit NASATOL shocked rivals at odds of 5-1 on Wednesday, sending Pick-9 bets crashing, resulting in a $1.68m carryover to tomorrow's race card.
However, the Super-6, which also had a million-dollar carryover, was nailed and paid $73,718 to winning tickets. Tomorrow's Super-6 will open at the fifth race with a minimum guarantee of $500,000.
Trainer Desmond Shand looks set to post a double as his HE AIN'T HEAVY should land Division Two of the CTL Exercise Riders' Race over 400 metres straight and his three-year-old second-time runner, SCHIZANDRA, is working well and should beat three-year-old Maidens in the eighth at 1820 metres.
HE AIN'T HEAVY was badly drawn at post position one and closed into fourth behind KAZ HO ME in a similar race in November. Shand has taken the nine-year-old gelding to task at exercise and he is preferred to YAHABIBI, who is drawn well on the outside but doesn't look as sharp as HE AIN'T HEAVY.
Shand's SCHIZANDRA is well bred, by OUTRIGGER out of REGINA SAVAGE and has started looking up in the mornings, beating DIAMOND EX-PRESS at exercise on Monday, clocking 1:02.0 for five furlongs round.
Pick-9 bettors can make their bets a Pick-8 by banking RANSOM MAN in the fourth, whereas BAILAME and SASSY SUSAN are better than rivals in the seventh and 10th races over 1400 and 1000 metres straight respectively.
