Two killed in separate incidents

A teenage boy and a 26-year-old man were shot dead in separate incidents across the island on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Dead are Kemar Noble, 15 years old, otherwise called 'Kemp' of Hudson Street in Westmoreland and Kevin Smith otherwise called 'Sheldon' of Central Road, Kencot, Kingston 10.

The Constabulary Communication's Liaison officer for Westmoreland said about 10 p.m. members of a police team were patrolling Pentecost Lane, where a group of men were seen. Their actions reportedly aroused suspicion of the lawmen and when accosted, they pulled guns and opened fire at the police.

The police returned the fire and Noble was hit. A 9 mm Taurus pistol with serial number erased and four rounds of ammunition was reportedly taken from him. He was taken to the Savannah-La-Mar hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Bureau of Special Investigations is looking into the matter.

The Half-Way Tree police are also investigating what led to Smith's murder along Lyndhurst Road, Kingston 5, at 5:30 am. Smith was a patron at a dance at Lyndhurst Road when he was pounced upon by two men armed with handguns. The armed hoodlums immediately opened fire, hitting him several times. The police were summoned and he was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
