Fix this

Traffic attempting to go through the stoplight at the intersection of Spanish Town Road and Industrial Terrace, which has been out of service for approximately nine months.

As a part of our mission to be the People's Paper, THE STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our reporter, Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed.

Now we will have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.

This week we are still in downtown Kingston, at the St. William Grant Park, trying not to fall into the open manholes on the outside of the park. These open manholes are a potential danger to pedestrians, especially with the constant rain that has been falling in recent weeks. We beseech pedestrians to be careful where they step.

But in the meantime, it may be a good idea to walk where there are no holes. Reports from the National Works Agency (NWA), which has responsibility for the manholes, say that a request has been made for funds to repair them but funds have not yet been allocated. It is not certain when this will be done.

Talking about uncertainty, will the traffic lights at the intersection of Spanish Town Road and Industrial Terrace ever be repaired? The last we heard from NWA was that the parts have been ordered for the light. We still await that arrival.
