Cops kill wanted man

Christopher Williams, otherwise called 'Cheese-Trix', a man wanted by the Kingston Western Police for a number of murders and shootings, was killed during a confrontation with the lawmen on the Mandela Highway, St. Andrew, yesterday morning.

Reports are that at about 4:45 a.m., a police team was on operation along Spanish Town Road. During the exercise, a Toyota Corolla motor car, with three men aboard, was signalled to stop. Instead of stopping, the car sped off.

The police pursued them and the car was intercepted on the Mandela Highway. Two men alighted from the vehicle and reportedly opened fire at the police. The fire was returned and during the subsequent gun battle, Williams, who is of no fixed address, was shot and killed.

A .50 Desert Eagle semi-automatic pistol with two rounds was taken from him. The driver and the other man escaped. Williams was pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital.
