Parents, talk to your children about sex

The WEEKEND STAR's lead story was about a 15-year-old girl who is the centre of a sex scandal now rocking Manchester.

According to the story, the student was taped on a cellphone while performing sexual acts on a male student. The videos were then distributed among other persons using blue tooth technology, and was also posted on the Internet.

The story certainly raises the serious concerns about teenage sexuality that are not being adequately addressed in the home and are now spilling over into the school.

Children are constantly exposed to sexual messages and unfortunately there are many youth who do not know how to treat these messages. So in some cases a teen makes the wrong decision and sometimes that one decision can have serious repercussions as the story proves.

Sexual urges

Many parents are still afraid to talk to their child about sex and how to handle their sexual urges. Even worse is that some parents are not even knowledgeable about the subject to discuss it, and unfortunately for some this ignorance does not spur them to get greater knowledge on the subject.

There are some key things such as self respect that parents also need teach their child from a young age. This can sometimes save a teen from becoming involved in obscene acts.

It is clear, especially from this story that sex in schools is becoming a big issue and that the issue, requires urgent attention from both parents and the school administration. Parents need to step up to the plate and handle the issues from an early stage before they become too much for them to handle.
