TRAINER Richard Azan has booted ace lightweight jockey Wesley Henry and the stewards of the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) are set to meet with the rider next Tuesday for him to explain his handling of JAZZY JET in the first race on Easter Monday.
Chief JRC steward, Lloyd Cobran, yesterday confirmed Henry's handling of Azan-trained JAZZY JET, a 3-5 favourite, which finished fourth, warranted an explanation.
"He has not been officially informed because he wasn't at the races on Saturday," said Cobran.
"He hasn't been actually given the papers yet but we're planning to have him next Tuesday," the chief steward added.
"We saw what we considered an incident on the day," Cobran explained.
"We looked at it further during the week and he will be summoned to explain his riding."
Meanwhile, Azan, with whom Henry has shared many winners, has turned to leading apprentice Javour Simpson to partner RAMPAGE in Sat-urday's Lady Geeta Trophy.
Simpson's agent, Donovan Wilson, confirmed that the apprentice will also be astride Azan's ROYAL COMMAND as well as a three-year-old maiden for the top trainer.
In-form Richard Mitchell will be aboard MAGNIFICO in a non-winners-of-two event for Azan, leaving Henry out in the cold.
Azan said JAZZY JET, a known front-runner, ran out of character in the 1100-metre first race on Easter Monday when ridden by Henry.
"She ran a really peculiar race," he said.
"After the race, I had a vet go through her and didn't find anything wrong. She even galloped this morning and was fine. She ran totally contrary to my instructions," he added.
Azan has also been summoned to appear before the stewards.
"They just informed me yesterday," he said. "I am sure they also noticed also that she ran really peculiar, contrary to her running style," he added.
