Dynamites blast to Hip Hop

by Carolyn Johnson, Freelance Writer

It was Hip Hop night on Saturday in the MiPhone Dancin' Dynamites competition on Television Jamaica, as the last seven groups danced for a spot in the final four. Target Dancers, however, missed this dance off. For the dancers present, it was a good night.

Kayatic Vybz was the second group to get full marks. In their interview just before their performance the duo told Jenny Jenny they were confident they would make it to the top four, although they were not among the highest voted. Michael Dewar also promised that they were going to bring it, and they did.

The pair's set began with Beyoncé's Ring the Alarm and Dewar onstage with his hands cuffed behind his back while his partner Boricia Brown ran on and started dancing. Dewar then continued to dance with his hands still bound, the crowd loved this. When he lifted Brown for the ending the audience could not be contained.

Young Blood opted for a replacement this week, as they said one of the original members could not manage Hip Hop. David 'Lucky' King was chosen to compliment Andrew Brown, and they made a good team. Judge Neila Ebanks commented that Brown chose the right partner as the group now seemed balanced. They earned 25 points, their second highest mark since the start of the competition.

Rock Star also had a good evening. The group which got the lowest last week redeemed themselves and received their highest score yet, 23. Another plus for them was coming into this show with the third highest number of votes, their first time in the top three.

But it was Blazin Vibes that was first again for the third time this week. The duo from Montego Bay received 27 points. Guest judge Kenneth 'KC' Casey said they had nice Hip Hop form and rewarded them with a 10. Yet it was Andre Brown's night. For weeks the judges had asked him to project more, but he was so good on Saturday that Orville Hall said Shelli-Ann Spence got lost.
