Okay World Cup Cricket is nearly over. Alright, I know it was over for West Indians for some weeks now. Actually, some say it was over for the West Indies once the group stage ended. Others claim if all the West Indies games had been played in Jamaica we would have been safe.
Well, whatever! I tell P that we got out of the group stage and as horrible as things panned out that actually suggests that it could have been worse!! That's right we actually won four games. Yippeee! And more positives we did not have captains, coaches et al resigning until last week. Yippeee!
Enough of the West Indies, sad bunch that they are, with all the resignations flying it is just a great opportunity to clean up shop and start from fresh. Start with a bunch of people who want to win and have no axes to grind or bottoms to lick. Find a crew like that and it's all good. If they keep the folk who have issues well the problems will continue.
But we go into the final two matches. Sri Lanka is there and while I know the game is cricket and the ball is round, and it's a one day, and the Australians are due a bad game and blah, blah, blah, blah - I am willing to say that it shall be an Australia vs Sri Lanka final.
Horsing around
The Australian team is so complete it gives a true sport fan goose pimples. Because when you see them step out on the cricket field there is one thing that everyone must get by now - they have not come to PLAY! Nope, when Australia is out on the field they are there to win, they are not into the romping or horsing around. They will have fun and they will enjoy their game, because they will win. They take a level of intensity to the field that means that the opposition better come with a plan or don't turn up at all. So far in this competition very few have turned up - maybe just South Africa.
It will be interesting to see how the Sri Lankans pan out against the psychological might of the Australians. They are good and they know it - and so does everyone else and there is nothing worse in sport than a living, active legend - especially if you have to play it! The Australian team in this competition is a living legend. Cricket team legends that live always have a couple of things going for them: The 13th man - "legend", The 14th man - "Luck", The 15th man - "Fear of the legend". Ask Clive Lloyd he led a legend team.
At the end of this, all I will add that I really don't like the Australian team and I would never support them as a fan. But, respect is due and respect must be given. They are the best team out in this World Cup. Were they not to make it to the finals it would be a travesty. Were they to get to the finals and not win, it would indeed be so unfortunate and totally against the run of play. I am bold enough to say congrats Australia 2007 World Cup champions.
