Going the distance to kill

The lead story in yesterday's STAR was, indeed, a very interesting one.

According to the story, the residents of two St.Mary communities have been fighting an ongoing battle with men who constantly remove their phone lines and reportedly use a material inside them to make bullets. The story also said this was being done to facilitate a trade with thugs from the Old Capital.

Though officers from Spanish Town have denied any knowledge of such a trade, the men in St. Mary obviously have a market for the cables they destroy. It is highly unlikely that they are just doing this for fun and it's the job of the police to find out for certain why this is happening and more importantly, who is behind it.

Unfair

The residents are understandably frustrated by this trend and it is about time for the police to step up their investigations. According to the story, this has been happening for at least two years. How much time do the police really need to put a stop to this? How fair is it for these residents to lose their phone service every other week? It is also unfair to the company as they are being forced to repair lines too often.

The bottom line is that this is affecting both the residents and the company and the police need to sort this out immediately.

Also of interest is the residents' complaints that even though the lines are being torn down, they are still receiving bills. This, however, is a whole other story.
