Cabinet on Monday approved the award of a contract valuing more than $51 million to Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Limited to supply network, servers and security appliances for the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Court.
Minister of Information and Development, Donald Buchanan, who was addressing the weekly post Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, said that the supply of the equipment "will enhance, safeguard and protect the whole data system within the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Court's information management system. In fact, the judicial enforcement management system and the jury management system will be major beneficiaries of this new equipment."
He noted further that the new equipment valued at $51,543,030 will "provide for real time communication between the different sections of the Supreme Court as well as linking directly into the Ministry of Justice and, therefore, will assist greatly in accelerating the pace of the dispensation of justice."
Meanwhile, the heavy fuel oil storage tank at the Petroleum Company of Jamaica (PETCOM) is to be repaired at a cost of $36,771,256.
The contract for the work, which was approved by Cabinet, has been awarded to Quality Plus Contracting Company Limited.
Mr. Buchanan informed that the facility in "recent times has been defective and has not been providing the correct measurement and information with respect to the storage of fuel in that facility. Therefore, it has become necessary to carry out this repair."
