Have I got HIV?

Dear Pastor,

I was involved in a sexual relationship with a woman. It is now rumoured in the community that she has AIDS. On one occasion the condom broke while we were having sex. I immediately pulled out and placed a new one on. What is amazing is that I received a negative reading on an HIV test.

Would it have been possible for me to contract the disease in that way? I am confused as the doctor told me that I do not need to worry about catching the virus.

J.I., St. James, Jamaica

Dear J.I.,

Follow the advice of your doctor. Perhaps you may wish to do another HIV test in a few months from now. Discuss that with your doctor.
