Road rules

Friday night to Saturday morning proved to be one of the deadliest days along our roads. Ten people were killed in five accidents between that time across the island.

Five of the deceased persons died in one accident which occurred along the Winston Jones Highway in Manchester. In another accident which involved a mother and son, the mother died while the son is now nursing injuries.

Apart from all those persons who were killed, all of eight people were also injured in accidents also during the same period. It is sad what has happened as several families are now grieving and eight others will have to live with the changes in their bodies caused by injuries they sustained in the accidents.

It is sad and not enough can be said about peoples need to take care on the roads. It is ridiculous that Jamaicans will be killing off each other because they fail to follow simple road rules that require careful driving and courtesy to others on the road.

According to an article in The Sunday Gleaner about 120 persons have been killed on our road since the start of the year. But that is far too many for the four months that have passed from the year already.

Simply put, preventing road accidents and keeping each other alive is a case that requires all road users to be respectful to each other and exercise and follow the rules of the road. We all need to be careful if we are going to stop any more Jamaicans from, or at least reduce the number of Jamaicans who are dying on our roads.
