The Bartley twins: Rasheena and Rasheed - Special delivery

Rasheena and Rasheed Bartley - george henry GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

spaldings, clarendon:

Rasheena and Rasheed Bartley were born on December 29, 1994. Rasheena, who was the first to arrive, said she was a breach delivery.

"When I was being born I came out in a weird way. I was born with my feet coming out first and I almost died," said Rasheena.

She said her brother Rasheed pushed her out of her mother's womb by kicking her, and that she was told by her parents Jeanette and Leroy Bartley that she was bleeding from almost everywhere on her body.

Rasheed said he was told the story by his parents but on hearing what had taken place, he did not have any feelings about it. Rasheena, who noted that she loves Rasheed, added that at times when her brother gets things, he shares them with her. The two who are grade-seven students at Denbigh High School near May Pen, in Clarendon, are said to be kind to each other.

They said while they were at basic and primary schools, they were always in the same class, but that changed since they went to high school.

Whenever the twins are bored they play basketball or football. Rasheena, who noted that she likes netball and basketball, said she works harder than her brother, but added that her brother teaches her quite a few things about games.

The two have different career paths. Rasheena wants to become a professional musician while Rasheed wants to be a professional footballer.

As it relates to their school work, Rasheena said her favourite subjects are English and Spanish, while Rasheed's are Spanish and physical education.

Rasheena said she does not think it is a good thing to be born as twins if they are not identical.

In her view, twins should be either two males or two females. The two said sometimes they get clothing but they cannot share due to their sex. If he had a twin brother, Rasheed said he could play more boys games.

Hamburgers and Kentucky Fried Chicken are among the favourite meals for the two.
