Policeman attacked?

Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

Spanish Town, St. Catherine

One man is now in hospital and the police in Linstead are conducting further investigations into an incident where a police officer was allegedly attacked by a group of men.

Reports from the police are that at about 5:45 p.m. yesterday, a police officer in uniform went to the Linstead bus park. He is reported to have seen a conductor smoking a ganja spliff and accosted him.

The lawman is said to have been boxed twice and when he attempted to retaliate two other men held him. An attempt was made to disarm the lawman and during the struggle the conductor was shot and injured. He was later taken to the hospital where he was admitted.

However, the residents who claimed they saw the incident contradicted the report. They told THE STAR that the police officer walked up to the conductor, there were explosions and he was shot. As a result of this, the road was blocked by angry protesters, but the police later cleared it.
