My Friend P and I know that it is time for entertainment and our rank frustration with the many clowns who seek to represent us.
It is a fact that the people who seek to represent us don't take us too seriously. They think that we need guidance and most importantly, they don't think that we are too smart.
But we ought to just get over this because whether we have four parties or two, the level of disdain with which we are treated will not change, at least not in the near future.
But back to the idiocy of the politicians, they have kicked off well with the name calling. I have joined the fray by calling them all clowns - since I am a daft, average Jane with no political aspirations or affiliation, I believe I can get away with it.
But in the name calling so far there has been 'Jezebel' and 'Satan'. How childish this seems. Pretty much a tit-for-tat exercise it has been. One almost feels that we are sitting at the top of a tree in the yard of a primary school, watching the children play a game of 'stuckie' during break time and someone is breaking the little rules of the game.
The name calling is one thing, but the 'pretend intelligent' posturing about things like "was it really said by me" and "I used the word but I did not call any names" is bordering on pure stupidity.
There is certainly little hope for us when we notice that the idiocy is alive and kicking on both sides of the political divide.
In fact, P and I are wont to think that there is an unspoken competition going on to define just which group can say and do the silliest things during an election campaign.
We all hope for a day when the posturing of Jamaican politicians during campaigning will indeed be on a higher level. The day when there will be an attempt to stimulate the mind that appeals for deep thought, versus speeches to the loins and the easily titillated surfaces of the brain.
From all indications that day is not going to appear in 2007, so we have some time to go yet. Maybe a generation or two, but politicking with even commonness is not in any manifesto this year. Email comments to: myfriendp@hotmail.com.
