Best wishes to Barry G

Barrington 'Barry G' Gordon. - file

The Editor, Sir:

As a music professional in the United States and a long-time visitor and businessman to your country, I wish to express my concern and best wishes for the speedy recovery of Mr. Barrington Gordon, aka Barry G, who in my estimation is as great a radio talent and personality I've heard in a lifetime of listening to radio DJs.

Throughout the years, going back to the early '80s, I have many memories of Barry G's programmes during my visits, especially at moments of turmoil in the nation.

I remember him once, in his cheerful and supreme confidence, announcing over a bubbling reggae rhythm, 'as long as Barry G is on the air, Jamaica's Safe!' and thinking, 'how true ...'

Maximum respect to a great entertainer of the Caribbean. May his recovery be complete, and may we see his return to the airwaves.

I am, etc.,

Tom Ray
