A 67-year-old woman who collected $200,000 and promised to give a woman a valid American visa, received a six-month suspended sentence in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court where she pleaded guilty to fraud charges.
Dorreth Willock pleaded guilty before Senior Resident Magistrate Lorna Errar-Gayle on Tuesday and made full restitution to the complainant in court.
Before pleading for his client, attorney Hugh Thompson apologised profusely to the court.
"Having now been given proper instruction and advised my client to make full restitution, I trust that the court will accept my apology."
It is reported that between January and March 2006, the senior citizen collected the money from the complainant after telling her she was able to secure a visa for $260,000
She was subsequently sentenced to six months hard labour, suspended for two years and warned to keep the peace and to stop stealing.
The complainant was also chastised for being stupid.
