Taxi filled with ammo

By Gareth Davis, Star Writer

Fifty rounds of ammunition was recovered by the Portland Special Squad police on Thursday night in the vicinity of West Street, in Port Antonio, aboard a taxi which was transporting four persons.

The Constabulary Communication Network's (CCN) liaison officer for the parish, Corporal Dwayne Campbell said that the Special Squad police were conducting a spot check at about 10:45 p.m., when a green Nissan Sunny with four people aboard was stopped.

"The car was searched and 25 rounds of .380 bullets along with 25 rounds of 9mm were recovered from the vehicle," said Corporal Campbell. "They were subsequently arrested and charged with illegal possession of ammunition."

They are 37-year-old Anthony Thomas, taxi operator of a Sandy Bay address in Clarendon, 24-year-old Errol Brown, a labourer of Old Harbour in St. Catherine, 35-year-old Anthony Palmer, self employed of Rolland's Field in St. Thomas and 23-year-old Kareisha Daley, unemployed of 2 Malvern Avenue, Kingston 6.

The four are booked to appear in the Buff Bay Resident Magistrate's court on May 22, to answer to the charge of illegal possession of ammunition. It is the second largest ammunition find to have taken place in the parish since the start of 2007.
