THE EDITOR, Sir:
After reading a story published in the Saturday, June 2 issue of THE STAR, where the Caymanas police have claimed a reduction in crime etc., I am compelled to write to you.
Although killings might be on the decline, crime certainly isn't on the down in the communities surrounding the Caymanas Police Station.
As a resident of one of the communities that the Caymanas Police Station is responsible for, I am far from pleased with the level of service that the police offer to the residents of the surrounding communities.
The Caymanas Police Station closes as soon as it gets dark. Many times calls are made to the station regarding criminal activities in the area, and nothing is done about the situation.
Areas such as Caymanas Gardens, Gregory Park, Christian Pen and Hamilton Gardens, continue to suffer from the hands of hoodlums and terrorists who plague the residents from time to time. As a matter of fact, on May 28, there was a shooting incident in the Caymanas Gardens area. There are too many guns in the communities and the young men are far too idle without jobs.
There are also allegations of cocaine and ganja bases doing thriving businesses in many of these communities.
I would really love to see the Caymanas police do some work for a change, and don't blow their horns and make noise when there is still a lot more to be done in the communities.
I am, etc.,
