Tina Nunezz's the Sweetest taboo

Tina Nunezz - contributed

Deportee, STAR Writer

Killer looks fused with killer hooks and we have another budding star.

The other day, I spoke to Tina Nunezz, the sexy singing bombshell on the music scene, and she scared me. I'm glad that she did. It wasn't until I had listened repetitively to her latest single Bad Boy that I realised how musically biased I am: not only don't I listen to new acts myself, I don't listen to reggae female artistes at all.

A smooth silky voice caressing Buju's gravelly staccato burst, the 'bad girl' solicits her bad boy. Feeling good is often overrated into today's world but Tina Nunezz makes you feel good, real good. Bad Boy featuring Buju Banton goes straight to the top. There are three types of rooms in a major hotel: standard, superior and deluxe and her voice hand-paints a beautiful fresco which adds freshness to the dancehall. Talking about frescos, patrons would love to see these two perform this song on stage.

Buju with his 'bad boy' attitude moving his wiry figure, with Tina turning more than the proverbial head.

Who is Tina Nunezz?

Born and raised in St. Andrew, Christina Campbell, this 22-year- old started singing professionally two years ago. Her first recording was Nobody which was on a compilation CD done on the Taxi 'riddim' by the indomitable 'riddim twins', Sly and Robbie. Tina, a cheery, pleasant diva in the making, says working with Buju Banton was easy because they had recorded separately. "It was simple. Whatever vibe I have, I will go with it, If you are feeling it, you have to go with the flow."

Her future plans see her writing more songs and breaking into the international market.

"MISS CLEO'

She may be the genuine Miss Cleo as she knew beforehand which R&B artiste she is often compared to.

She laughs at being compared to Toni Braxton."I have often been told that I sound like Toni, but you know Tony's a big R&B star, zeen" she said with an air of refreshing modesty. She states that she has her own personality and style.

The guitar riffs hum and with the thumping drum tracks graciously sees this as a big booty bouncer for the summer.

Crooning through the sub woofers - her sexy, sassy voice spitting out lyrical melody - the pulsating beat of the 'Outburst' 'riddim' chalking up a storm - she sings about every woman's fantasy - a bad boy. It is definitely a 'dancy' tune. There's nothing ordinary about Tina's voice as it is like honey to the ear and it will seduce many more ears to come.

A CD review is often unpalatable at best, as one always has to try to get drunk on the music to like it. In this case, it is yours truly's turn to ask Tina "What have you done to me"

A past student of the Queen's school, she is a budding entrepreneur.

"I want to carry reggae music all over the world. I want to accomplish the singing part first, then go into production," she confidently giggled.

Her passion is travelling the world, experiencing different cultures. "Seriously, it is all about my work. No fun and games when I am working. I enjoy life". Going to China is her dream.

Currently, she is doing some work with Zawdie of Zawdie Promotions and Damien of Black flames entertainment based in New York "Big up Zawdie, mi bredrin" she chirped with her Red Bull-packed energy.

Taking a sabbatical from her studies at UWI where she is pursuing a degree in political science, she is more than a shower of smiles and a powerful mindset to see her through.

There's no Tek Weh Yuself from Tina as with her smashing good looks, her champagne personality, she will have listeners and fans drunk on her for years to come.

It is easy to imagine Tina on tour. You can safely bet or wish that she will be the new Sean Paul. A poster girl for young males, this new kid on the scene - her brand of dancehall music seasoned with a R& B flavour. She will knock the alligator off your shirt.

Like her idol Sade, she is the sweetest taboo.
