A Portmore woman charged with manslaughter following a fatal accident along Agusta Drive in the Sunshine City, was granted $150,000 bail to reappear in the Spanish Town RM Court on August 22.
The court heard that Tamika Williams was driving along the road on June 8, about 5:30 p.m., when she collided with a motorcycle driven by Norman Peterkin, after she allegedly swerved from her lane. Peterkin died and following investigations, Williams was subsequently charged by the police.
However, when the case came up for mention recently, Williams pleaded not guilty and was eventually granted bail.
Williams' attorney told the court she had to seek medical attention, suffered psychological trauma and had cooperated with the investigators. The police disagreed and told the court that Williams did not say a word after the accident.
Upon Williams being granted bail, Peterkin's widower was asked to say a few words.
"Your Honour, I understand that it was an accident, however, she did not even say that she was sorry or anything and that's really sad," she said. The RM told the grieving wife that it could well be that Williams was really in shock, which is why she might not have not contacted her.
She then gave words of consolation to the grieving woman.
