Mob justice claims two

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

Spanish Town

Mob justice put an end to the lives of two men who attempted to rob a bus in Central Village, St. Catherine, on Saturday night.

Dead is Kirk Walters, 25, from Spanish Town and an unidentified man.

Police say about 9:00 p.m., Walters and the other man posing as genuine passengers attempted to rob a bus going to Portmore. They were accosted by a policeman who was a passenger on the bus. Following a shoot-out both men jumped from the bus leaving behind a pistol. They went into an area known as Compound to seek refuge but they were caught and beaten.

"We understand that the men from the area claimed that the men (robbers) were causing disgrace and have 'dissed' the community and so they were killed," remarked an investigator.

Police say the men were positively identify to be memebers of a group that have been robbing buses between Spanish Town and Portmore, and although the mob killing is wrong, their deaths have put a jolt in the criminal activities of the group.
