Dread on assault charge gets bail extension

A dread who was arrested for chopping his neighbour and trying to chop his relative said he was unable to take up his bail offer because the man his sister paid to bail him had ran off with the money.

The Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court heard that Albert Robinson, 49, of Bell Rock, St. Andrew, allegedly had a dispute with a neighbour on April 6 about the neighbour's beating of another man. Robinson allegedly got upset and a fight developed between the two. Robinson is alleged to have gone inside his house for a machete which he used to chop the complainant several times in the back and head.

The complainant made a report to the police who investigated and subsequently charged him with wounding with intent. It is further alleged that later that week, the complainant's relative was walking along Spanish Town Road when he was attacked by Robinson who allegedly had a machete which he used to try and chop him.

The relative was assisted by citizens who took him and Robinson to the police station where a report was made and Robinson charged.

After listening to Robinson's reasons for remaining in custody, RM Judith Pusey extended his $30,000 bail and set a trial date of July 19.
