Gay heads US World Champs squad

Tyson Gay, the fastest man in the world this year over both 100 metres and 200 metres, heads the provisional United States team for the August 25-September 2 IAAF World Championships.

Gay clocked 10.84 and 19.62 to win the sprint double. His 19.62 is the second fastest time ever behind the world record 19.32 held by fellow American Michael Johnson.

The squad was selected based on performances at last weekend's United States National Championships held in Indianapolis. The final selections, including relay teams, will be announced in August. Note: a-Automatic qualifier as defending world champion, x-Have not met "A" qualifying standard.
