Woman beater fined $20,000

A man accused of repeatedly slamming his pregnant girlfriend's head into a wall, appeared before Resident Magistrate Sharon George in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Wayne Graham, a resident of Water Street, Kingston 13, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm. The allegations are that at about 3:30 p.m., on June 19, the complainant was at home talking to a neighbour. She was reportedly discussing her problems with the father of her first child, and complained that he was not taking care of his responsibilities.

The accused reportedly came into the yard and told the complainant, "A hope seh a nuh my name you a call, ennuh." He then allegedly grabbed the complainant's hair from behind and slammed her head into a wall several times. He also punched her in the face. When they both appeared in court, the heavily pregnant complainant did not say much.

Graham was fined $20,000 or 10 days' imprisonment at hard labour and RM Graham ordered that he be fingerprinted.
