BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC
Although four key decision makers of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) have been attending meetings in London, there was no definitive word on the West Indies 'A' team tour to Zimbabwe.
WICB President Ken Gordon, Chief Executive Officer Bruce Aanansen, Corporate Services Manager Tony Deyal, and Chief Cricket Operations Officer Tony Howard were all meeting in the British capital ahead of this week's International Cricket Council board meeting.
The 'A' team is set to leave the Caribbean on Friday for a tour of Zimbabwe that includes a series of three "unofficial" Tests and two limited-overs matches between July 4 and 26.
The WICB and West Indies Players' Association however, have failed to reach agreement with the players' body advising the regional governing body that serious security concerns exist, and making the trip to the African nation at this time could be hazardous.
Although a team has not been named for the trip, it was announced Sylvester Joseph would lead the squad to Zimbabwe with Narsingh Deonarine as his deputy.
Joseph, however, has turned down the position.
Former Trinidad & Tobago captain and West Indies wicketkeeper David Williams was appointed coach, Lindel Wright of Jamaica has been named manager, and Barbadian Jacqui King as fitness and conditioning consultant.
