A man who attempted to export 80 pellets of cocaine to the United States will be sentenced in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on June 29.
Terrence Hibbert appeared before Resident Magistrate Sharon George on June 26 and pleaded 'guilty with explanation' to possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine and attempting to export cocaine.
The facts are that on June 21, Hibbert was preparing to board an Air Jamaica flight destined for the United States of America. Security checks revealed traces of cocaine in his system and he was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where an X-ray was done. The X-ray revealed unusual objects in Hibbert's stomach and he was admitted to the hospital. He later expelled 80 pellets of cocaine.
When asked to explain his actions, Hibbert told the court: "Normally people come with excuses, but I'm just going to tell the truth ... I had to pay for an operation that costs $100,000."
Hibbert was remanded until June 29, when he will be sentenced.
