Feanny set for early triple

by Jimmie, Star Racing Writer

PHILIP Feanny should win three of the first four events on tomorrow's 11-race card to continue a ding-dong battle with champion Wayne DaCosta atop the trainers' standings at Caymanas Park.

Feanny, a 14-time champion, who last won the trainers' title in 2004, starts tomorrow's programme leading DaCosta by $174,350, both saddling 24 winners since the start of the year.

Every dollar will count until the year end as the local trainers' title is decided by purse money earned and the top two trainers are set to battle to the end.

Feanny has LIMA'S BIGBADBOY in the first event for two-year-olds at 1000 metres straight and has a pair of three-year-olds, SPECIAL K and LIQUID GOLD, contesting the second and fourth races over 1000 metres straight.

LIMA'S BIGBADBOY chased home DaCosta's MR. SKILL at 600 metres on his June 2 debut and looks set to get off the mark at the distance.

SPECIAL K was slowly into stride for his two outings to date but has been taken to task by Feanny, who has him galloping with OUTFITHER in the mornings. Feanny has removed the visor, hoping the change of equipment will reverse his runner's bad gate habit.

That aside, SPECIAL K looks a better horse than his 10 rivals, finishing third behind stablemate RANKING on debut, and can afford to lose some ground at the start.

There's a Hi-Five carryover of just over $114,858 to the second event and SPECIAL K can be chanced as a banker.

LIQUID GOLD has displayed similar bad gate habits, which definitely cost him on June 9. He was forced to make up too much ground and finished a close-up fourth to upset winner NATURAL ATLANTA.

Feanny has replaced LIQUID GOLD's visor with a blinker and will have lasix administered. Last Monday morning, LIQUID GOLD broke from the gate and was clocked in 47.3 for four furlongs.

Jackpots at $1.6m

DaCosta is set to respond with down-in-class CHADMAN in the LC McKenzie Memorial for the 10th race at 1400 metres.

The American-bred gelding, who has been finishing close-up to rivals in Open Allowance and Graded Stakes, should use his strong pace to get away from ABENG, SATISFIER and ROYAL COMMAND.

The Pick-9 is at $1 million following punters' failure to get it right on Wednesday, and the Super-6 will be at its guaranteed $500,000.

ORION should give Super-6 players a flying start in the sixth as she has worked really well, galloping six furlongs in 1:15.2 with stablemate IL CAIMANO, who is preparing for the July 7 Jamaica St. Leger.

PADDY'S STORM, who has definitely looked improved since moving to Robert Darby Sr's barn, should make all in the seventh at 1820 metres. He got the better of both LATIN KING and BLOW WIND BLOW when narrowly beaten by PRINCE NATHANIEL at a mile on June 13.

SEA CRACKERS appears sound and ran his best-ever race when beaten by MITAKA on June 16 and should beat MISS SLOOKIE if he reproduces that effort.

A fresh CELEBRATION TIME will be tough to beat in the ninth at 1100 metres and ARCHANGEL gets his pet trip in 11th at 1000 metres straight.
