Bank on The Bomber

THE BOMBER with Winston Griffiths. - file

by Jimmie, Star Racing Writer

DERBY winner THE BOMBER and top Graded Stakes sprinter CLOCK WORK are bankers on tomorrow afternoon's St. Leger Day 12-race card, which has a $1.5 million Pick-9 carryover as a big lure.

THE BOMBER has improved immensely at exercise since landing the Derby on June 2 and looks set to run his rivals into the ground once again.

With no other speed but MUCHO GUSTO in the event, THE BOMBER should once again dictate things with Winston Griffiths having the option of pressing the overdrive button whenever he pleases.

MUCHO GUSTO lacks sustained pace whereas RUM TALK is too slouchy to nab THE BOMBER, who showed great acceleration when stealing the Derby.

CLOCK WORK has been hit with topweight 60.5 kilos in the She's On Wheels Trophy over 1100 metres but should once again prove too hot as he will enjoy an uncontested lead and should have enough in hand to stave off any late run from MUSICAL MAESTRO up the lane.

Jackpots at $2.5m

With back-to-back Super-6 bets on tomorrow's card, Punters will have a shot at $2.5 million in jackpots spread over 12 races, starting at the very first event.

Super-6 races 1-6 and 7-12 will each have minimum payouts of $500,000 in addition to the $1.5 million Pick-9 carryover.

Champion trainer Wayne DaCosta's down-in-class CAPTAIN BONE and JJ'S RED ROCKET are opening Super-6 bankers in the fifth and sixth races, respectively, as the top trainer is set to post a four-timer completed by SKYWAY EXPRESS in the eighth and CLOCK WORK in the co-feature.

Leading trainer Philip Feanny won't be idle as his two-year-old debutant - I'M MAGIC - a half-sister to BLUE MAGIC, is set to win the first event over 600 metres straight and he should return to close the card with FIRE D TRAINER in the 12th at 1200 metres.

MYTHICAL PEGASUS only needs a clean break to land the second at 1820 metres, and PYRITE TONIGHT will have to be caught in the third at 1100 metres after that decent second behind ALNASKRA over 1000 metres straight on June 9.

Robert Darby's TOCUMEN is super-fit just now and is back to his winning level in the seventh and SIR KISSON LAL should return to winning ways in the 10th at 1820 metres.
