Two lucky 17-year-olds were yesterday chosen to be Jamaica's representatives at the Noise! summer camp put on by Muzak.com in Los Angeles later this month.
The two youngsters, Janine Coombs, a student of The Queens School in Kingston, and Mikhail Fearon, a student of Campion College, outperformed a field of persons who submitted essays on three topics, and also shone in the interviews.
Impressed
The competition came about after Steve Villa, CEO of Muzak, saw Wayne Marshall and Etana performing at their sales trip for top performers. Villa was impressed with their talent and offered the chance for one Jamaican to be a part of the experience. This number was later increased to two when Muzak increased the number of spaces from Jamaica.
The two will leave Jamaica this weekend for Los Angeles, where they will join 30 other students from across the United States to learn about the ins and outs of the music business.
THE STAR, Solid Agency and Muzak were responsible for the competition, which ran from June 22 to July 6, and invited youngsters who were 17 to submit essays on topics such as 'Is the music industry in Jamaica one we can be proud of, or has it deteriorated,'? 'Dancehall is different from reggae ... How so'? and 'Is dancehall recognised on the international stage?'
