WESTERN BUREAU:
Two men, who share a history of cases before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court, were back before the court on Wednesday.
This time, the very same complainant is alleging that Haniff Thompson of John's Hall district, in St. James, and others, stole $1.5 million worth of auto parts and supplies from his business place.
However, Thompson, whose attorney was absent, told the court that the complainant's actions were vindictive. He said the complainant was allegedly not satisfied with the fact that the previous matter ended without him getting a custodial sentence, and vowed that he would make sure he went to prison.
Usual practice
His station bail was extended until July 23 when it expected that his attorney would attend court so that a trial date can be set in the matter.
It is alleged that about 2 a.m. on June 13, the complainant, whose usual practice was to wake up at that time to his business place, saw two cars parked outside his auto parts store. It is said that he also observed six men, one of whom he recognised as the accused, removing items from the store and placing them into the vehicles.
He allegedly tried to call the police, but dialled 911 instead of 119. When the complainant went to the store after the men left, he observed that one of the doors was kicked off while the other one was left open.
He also saw that several auto parts and supplies were missing. He subsequently made a report to the Spring Mount police.
Thompson was arrested at his girlfriend's home, at which time he said, "Mi no bruk no place, is because him want mi baby madder".
