Alleged 'One Order Gang' member gets life

A man who was reported to be a member of the One Order Gang in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, was yesterday sentenced to life imprisonment.

He is 32-year-old Gairy Evans, of Tawes Pen, St. Catherine. Evans was convicted of the murder of Christopher Barnes, of Job Lane, Spanish Town.

Mr. Justice Patrick Brooks, in passing sentence in the Home Circuit Court, ordered that Evans serve 25 years before he is eligible for parole.

The Crown led evidence before the 12-member jury that Barnes was shot eight times in Job Lane on October 25, 2005.

It was reported that Barnes was shot dead because he had opposed plans for the One Order Gang to run his community.

Evidence was given that on the day of the incident Evans and another man who were wearing raincoats went to where Barnes was and shot him several times.

Evans denied being involved in the murder.
