Political violence resurface in Mountain View

Political violence, once a trademark of the volatile Mountain View community, resurfaced on Tuesday evening. Two persons were shot and injured.

According to police, the shooting began shortly after 5 pm in the Jarrett Lane and Saunders Avenue areas of the community, and lasted for several hours. Two persons, whose addresses have not yet been ascertained, were shot and injured during the crossfire. Both have been admitted to the Kingston Public Hospital.

While the shooting seems to have subsided, the police are taking no chances and have intensified their presence in the community. A number of soldiers have also been deployed to the area.

The Mountain View community has long had a history of political violence with Saunders Avenue and Jarrett Lane, at the 'top', linked to the PNP and Jacques Road, to the 'bottom', being a traditional JLP stronghold.
