The final four remaining spots in the Rising Star competition were filled on Friday.
Kyino Cunningham, Lanya Wilks, Jodi-Ann Pantry and Oniel Peart were given the nods after a week-long voting process. Going back into anonymity are the groups Khalil and D'Zire along with judge Anthony Miller's wild card Chrystal Campbell as their time in the competition came to an end.
It was a nervous time for the studio audience and the contestants as the third and final sing-off before the completion of the top ten produced some of the better talents.
Wilks, Pantry and Cunningham were the first three to be told they were spared the axe. The final spot was between Peart and Khalil. In the end, Peart who was a one-man band on Sunday had apparently done enough to get the nod over five-member group Khalil. Peart could not hold his excitement back.
"I was very nervous but I got it. If Khalil had gone through, it would still have been a good pick. What can I say? It was up to the public and I am happy am I still here," Peart told THE STAR.
Wilks, one the other hand was lost for words.
"Wow! That's all I can come up with," she said.
When asked by host Denise Hunt if Jamaica had made the right decision as expected, judges Nadine Sutherland and Clyde McKenzie, danced around the question in an attempt to soften the blow. Miller though, hit the nail right on the head.
"The public got it absolutely right," he said.
The competition will now take on a different elimination format instead of three per week. The other six to have made it to the top ten in the previous weeks are Inga Miller, Romain Virgo, Tashina McKenzie, Deh Deh, Mickeala Jack and Kareen Ricketts.
Chrystal Campbell was eliminated on Friday.
