Death stalks on the weekend

Five persons were killed and four injured in separate incidents across the island on the weekend.

According to reports, on Saturday night 33-year-old Desmond Bryan of Caymanas Bay was at home at about 11:30 p.m. when gunmen kicked open his door. They opened fire, hitting him several times, killing him on the spot. The police were summoned, the crime scene processed and the body removed to the morgue.

Fifteen minutes later, five persons were shot, one fatally, by gunmen at Swamp Lane, Bog walk, St. Catherine.

The dead man has been identified as 42-year-old Norman White otherwise called 'Sty' of Swamp Lane, while injured are two women aged 33 and 35, and two men aged 35 and 37.

Gunmen entered

According to reports, at about 11:45 p.m., the five were on White's verandah when two gunmen entered the premises immediately opening fire hitting them. The police were summoned and the injured persons taken to hospital where White was pronounced dead.

The Bog Walk police are investigating.

Over in St. James, one man was killed in Paradise, Norwood, St. James, also on Saturday night.

Dead is 29-year-old Mark Scarlett also called 'Indian' of Paradise, Norwood.

Reports are that, at about 8:15 p.m. explosions were heard in the area. Following a search by residents, Scarlett's body was found on a dirt track. The police were summoned, the crime scene processed and the body removed.

The Montego Bay CIB is investigating.

Minutes earlier, one of two men who reportedly fired at members of a police patrol was fatally shot and an illegal gun seized on Chapelton Road in Clarendon.

The dead man, believed to be in his late 20s is of slim build, dark complexion and about 178 centimetres tall.

Reports are that police were on patrolling duties on Chapelton Road. Two men were seen acting suspiciously. On the approach of the lawmen, the men pulled guns and opened fire. The fire was returned hitting one of the men.

A .357 Magnum revolver with three .44 cartridges was taken from him. He was taken to the May Pen Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Bureau of Special Investigations has commenced an inquiry into the incident.

Licensed firearm holder arrested

On Saturday, a licensed firearm holder was taken into police custody following the shooting death of a 22-year-old woman on Chisholm Avenue, Kingston 13.

Dead is Cherrian Brown of Chisholm Avenue, while in custody is a 50-year-old contractor, of a St. Catherine address.

According to reports from the CCN, Hunter was driving along the avenue at about 8:50 a.m., when a man said to be of unsound mind allegedly hit the vehicle with a stone. During an ensuing altercation, Hunter reportedly fired a shot from his licensed firearm, hitting Brown who was nearby. She was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The contractor was taken into police custody by the Hunts Bay police who are investigating.
