A St. Ann man who was caught in possession of several packets of ganja, that he intended to sell at Sumfest, in Catherine Hall, St. James, lost $2,900 of his earnings, as he had to pay fines before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court.

Twenty-six-year-old Garth Mighty, of Runaway Bay, who pleaded guilty to possession of and dealing in ganja last Friday, was fined $1300 for possession and $1,600 for dealing, or 30 days in prison.

The father of one pleaded with RM Winsome Henry to show lenience saying,

"Mi a beg yu fi show some mercy on mi your honour cause mi have a yute and mi just a try something fi mek myself independent."

"Mi an mi girlfriend use to sell on the hotel site at Lucea but when things slow mi just hustle," he added.

He was reminded, however, that he needed to use lawful and legitimate ways to earn a living.

He was seen near the Sumfest venue on July 19 about 11:45 p.m with a box of items in his hand. The box was searched and 28 packets of the contraband were recovered.
