CCN celebrates

The camp theme is 'Integrating communities Through Community Policing initiatives'. On Friday, July 27, the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) will be hosting its annual after-work jam on the grounds of the Commissioner's Office, 101-105 Old Hope Road. The event marks the CCN's eighth year in existence.

On the Beat caught up with the operations manager, Inspector Victor George Henry, recently. He told us a little about the group mandated to give information on behalf of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, as well as what to expect from this weekend's bash.

According to the man who has been there from day one, the CCN replaced the Police Information Centre in September 1999 as part of a restructuring programme.

"Commissioner of Police at the time, Francis Forbes ordered the restructuring to meet certain objectives. The creation of a central information base on police matters, the improvement of information gathering capabilities and the provision of a more transparent and user-friendly service were some of them."

He believes the CCN has done exceptionally well over the years.

"We have made a great contribution to the JCF and, by extension, the people of Jamaica. We have partnered with the media to provide more accurate, credible and transparent information to the public."

Today, the CCN is viewed as the face of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. Metro and liaison officers can often be seen and heard reporting on various police-related issues.

However, Inspector Henry does not believe in all work and no play and cites this weekend's event as an opportunity for members to relax, have fun and socialise with some of the people they serve. He told On the Beat some of the things to expect.

"Patrons can expect contemporary and vintage music from the CCN disco with guest selector DJ Speng. They can expect Flex cards giveaway, beer drinking contest and prizes such as a flat screen television and weekend for two at a north coast hotel."

The officer says that although food and refreshments will be on sale, ticket holders will be entitled to a meal of jerked chicken or pork.

Mr. Henry also categorically stated that he promises a good time for all and if this is not realised, he can be held accountable.

On the Beat congratulates the CCN and wishes the group all the best.

On the Beat is a production of the Constabulary Communication Network. For further information contact Constable Richard Minott at 978-2729.
