Wray and Nephew National Premier League champions Harbour View were duly recognised at the awards ceremony for the 2006-07 season at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel last night.

Apart from winning the $2.15 million cash prize, striker Fabian Taylor won the Tony Burrowes Player Personality award for leadership and character and pocketed $100,000.

Harbour View's Lenworth Hyde Sr. won Coach of the Year and goalkeeper Dwayne Miller was voted Junior Player of the Season. The club was also voted the best attacking team after finding the back of the net 67 times and had the best goal difference of 37.

Boys' Town's inspirational striker George Vernal won the Player of the Season award.

Portmore United, who again allowed the least amount of goals, 19, won the best defensive team award. Harbour View and Waterhouse were next in conceding the fewest goals with 30 each.

Waterhouse's Irvino English won the leading goal scorer award with 18 goals. He had a late flurry in the season with five goals against Wadadah to edge the Harbour View strike pair of Taylor (15) and Kavin Bryan (17).

Seba United, who just escaped relegation, won the Fair Play award.

The Peter Cargill award for most disciplined team went to Reno. Reno bagged $200,000 for their good behaviour.

The $25,000 Ground Staffs Incentive went to Tivoli Gardens.

Guest speaker Russell Bell, a former youth player and football administrator and current educator, reminisced on the old days of football and said he was pleased with the growth of the game.

"There is a marked improvement in the popularity of the sport from when I was playing and I hope it continues to grow," said Bell.

"There was a time, believe it or not, when football was not the most popular sport, but it has grown by leaps and bounds."
